It's a staple, but it took me years to like it and even now I sip it like a dessert. I have lived here for more than half my life. It's just overrated. It's deafening. I've heard them over diesel engines and ambulance sirens. The things are absolutely overrated and absolutely do not work for the ambiance non-southern writers attempt.
You can't rake them. You can't blow them away, and they never rot. Then there are those cones that fall off everywhere when the flower dies. Not worth the mess. It's hairy and slimy and no amount of cornmeal coating can make me forget that. And coleslaw is not a sandwich topping. Give me a tomato-based sauce any day. I know I'm not the only one that feels that way. Compared to the glory that is college football, stock car racing is boring.
I like the floating down the river part but, I can do that in a boat or a canoe. Walmart is celebrating the start of the holiday season with a variety of new ice cream flavors, including one specially made for those folks who end up on the naughty list.
This year Walmart has debuted three new Great Value brand seasonal ice cream flavors perfect for Christmas, including Peppermint Cookies and Cream ice cream, Santa's Sugar Cookies ice cream and Lumps of Coal ice cream. Lumps of Coal ice cream consists of chocolate ice cream with fudge swirls and chocolate-flavored chips while Santa's Sugar Cookies ice cream is, well, ice cream flavored like sugar cookies and includes swirls of frosting, dough pieces and red sprinkles.
Not to mention, Peppermint Cookies and Cream is peppermint ice cream with cookies and cream chunks in it. All of these flavors are available in pint-size now, but they'll only be around for a limited time. The reunion forces them to face the ghosts of their past in their minds and inside Hill House.
